A celebration of found objects in mosaic form, Know Thyself Mirror contains shell, pebble, seaglass and freshwater pearl.
In ancient Greece, mirrors were associated with foresight and knowledge. Above the entrance to the oracle at Delphi was written 'know thyself' in gold. Later, Plato reinterpreted this phrase to say 'know thy soul.' Mirrors were considered divine, portals that connected mortal men to other realms.
Know Thyself Mirror begins with a piece of clay, formed by hand using ancient slab building techniques. After firing it is adorned with a mosaic featuring elements from the sea. For this reason, each mirror is unique and will vary slightly. Mirror measures approximately 11.75" x 8.75."
